Culture and History

Dunes is a 13th-century bastide built around the former central market halls. The Église Sainte-Madeleine has been listed as a historic monument since a decree dated 17 December 1926.

The preserved wall of the Tour des Templiers is the remains of a Templar monastery. The town hall of Dunes displays archaeological collections from the excavations at the Tour des Templiers; the history of the hanged is also presented there.

The Gallic coin hoard at the Croix de Dunes was buried between 118 and 106 BC and comprises 500 ancient silver coins. The former weavers’ district is a historic area in Dunes that visitors can explore. The cultural heritage in Dunes can be visited individually, without a guide and free of charge at all times.

Nature and Trails

The Sentiers du Brulhois trail network includes the 30-km Circuit du Brulhois, the 14-km Circuit de la Tour, the 11-km Circuit des Vergers and the 10-km Circuit de Cachepiot. The trail network comprises just under 60 km of routes for walking, horse riding and mountain biking; starting points are located in Sistels, Dunes, Saint-Loup and Donzac.

The trails of the Sentiers du Brulhois lead through vineyards, orchards, various areas of agricultural land and wooded areas. After three decades, umbrella pines had become established in the landscape around Dunes.

The Grand Chêne can be visited; its trunk circumference at ground level is 9.50 m.
