Culture
In Velles stands the Church of Saint-Etienne, also known as Notre-Dame. Its main construction phase dates from the third quarter of the 12th century, while another construction phase took place in the 19th century. The building consists of a two-bay nave, a transept with a square crossing tower and a semicircular apse. On 3 May 1913, the church was classified as a historic monument. Local tradition dedicates Notre-Dame de Velles to boatmen; an important pilgrimage takes place there every year on 15 August.
The Tour des Chartreux in Vers is part of a 14th-century residential building. Two surviving towers have cross-shaped loopholes with double crossbars. Near Vers, the Gallo-Roman aqueduct supplied Cahors with water from the 1st to the 5th century. Remarkable surviving remains overlooking the Lot and the Vers Valley were added to the supplementary inventory of historic monuments in 1953.
The Château des Anglais in Vers is a medieval refuge built into the cliff above the village. It is not open to visitors, but can be viewed from the village or from the banks of the Lot.
Nature
The circular trail À Vercinge(to)ry follows the green, unspoilt Vers Valley across the limestone plateau and offers panoramic views of Saint-Géry and the Lot Valley. Via Causs'mos is an artistic circular route through the three valleys of the Vers, Lot and Célé; Vers is listed as the first point of interest.
In the village, the Vers stream forms small cascades near former mills and riverside paths as it flows over the limestone.
Local
Les jardins du Mas de Greil in Vers regularly offer guided tours and workshops for visitors between mid-March and mid-October. These include the discovery and tasting of around twenty edible wild plants per season, a workshop on growing and processing Quercy saffron, and educational workshops on snail farming. The gardens produce edible flowers, microgreens, herbs, lavender and saffron, and breed snails.
Routes
Vers lies along the two long-distance cycle routes V86 Vallée du Lot à vélo and V87 La Vagabonde. However, a circular cycle route does not start in the village.
