Vaillac: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The La Ronde Autour du Château route runs from one hillside to the other through the Foulon Valley and offers views of Vaillac and the Château of the same name. Along its course, it passes through Vaillac’s quiet streets and by old buildings, including pointed-arch portals and lintels. Culture

The Château de Vaillac was built from 1450 onwards. The Château-fort de Vaillac was restored from its ruins in 1597 by Anne de Montberon, the Lady of Vaillac. In Quercy, the Château de Vaillac is considered an emblematic example of post-Hundred Years’ War architecture. The tour includes the interiors of the residential building and the stables.

The Church of Saint-Julien partially retains the character of a Romanesque building and is said to date from the late 13th century. On its south side, a portal has been preserved, above which there is a cornice decorated with nail heads and a bas-relief of the crowned Madonna. From the outside, only a very high apse built of hewn stones is visible at the Romanesque Church of Saint-Julien; its semicircular section is preceded by a straight section.

The Circuits de bourg lead through history, anecdotes and portrayals of local figures to convey the identity of the landscape in the heart of the Causses du Quercy. On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the Church of Saint-Julien de Vaillac was exceptionally open for free visits throughout the weekend.

The Pech de Dreuilles hill is located in the vicinity of Vaillac. The Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park is situated near Vaillac. In the wider regional area are the Gouffre de Padirac cave, the Grottes de Cougnac caves and the ruins of Abbaye Nouvelle. Also located there are the Château d’Assier, a palace, the Château de Bourzolles, a castle, and Saint-Étienne Cathedral, a church.
