Saint-Jean-De-Laur: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

The Abbaye de Lantouy is considered a Benedictine monastic complex. It consists of exceptional remains of a medieval abbey located on the slope of a secluded hill above the Gouffre de Lantouy.

The remains include the ruins of the church and associated buildings on the Plateau de Gayfié. They have been listed as historic monuments of France since 19 November 2009. The main construction phase of the Abbaye de Lantouy is presumed to date to the first half of the 11th century.

The archaeological site of Lantouy is located immediately next to the Gouffre de Lantouy, south-east of the de Gaifié farmstead. In Saint-Jean-de-Laur, the church is dedicated to Saint John of Laur, Saint Jean de Laur.

Nature

The Gouffre de Lantouy is a karst spring, or spring outlet. It brings underground water from the eastern Causse de Limogne and the Terrefort in the Laramière area back to the surface.

Pilgrimage Routes

The GR® 65 pilgrimage route runs from Montredon to Limogne via Saint-Jean-de-Laur. The section of the GR® 65 from Montredon to Saint-Jean-de-Laur is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Fontaine rest and picnic area at the fountain and the municipal lake offers a picnic break and drinking water. An association there welcomes pilgrims on the Way of Saint James.

Water

The Gouffre de Lantouy is a site for cave diving. Depending on the conditions, experienced to very experienced cave divers are recommended for cave diving there.

Access to the Gouffre de Lantouy should be carefully prepared. This includes checking the required permits and taking high-water periods into account.
