Saint-Caprais: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The church of Saint-Caprais dates back to the beginning of the 11th century and is classified as a historic monument. Inside, there are 15th-century frescoes depicting the sacraments of the faith, the Descent from the Cross and the Last Judgement.

Since 2017, the “L'Art et la Bannière” exhibition has displayed painted banners on the walls of five villages in southern Bouriane, including Saint-Caprais. In 2024, the exhibition displayed 40 banners made by 40 artists in the streets of five villages in southern Bouriane, again including Saint-Caprais.

Nature

For walking, the circular trail of the “Le Trésor de Pech-Curet” game runs around Saint-Caprais. The community café Le Caprazy opened in summer 2025 and was open to residents and visitors passing through for culinary or cultural breaks; games in nature are offered from there, allowing visitors to explore the surrounding landscapes.

A little-known road to Saint-Caprais leads through a forest to a grazing clearing considered the main stopping place for transhumant sheep.

Traditions

After farmers planted new varieties of chestnut trees, Saint-Caprais came to be regarded as one of the region’s “capitals” of the chestnut. The “Fête de la châtaigne” takes place every year on the second Saturday in October. It includes an open-air market, an exhibition, sales, demonstrations and tastings of handmade products. Chestnuts are presented as flour, preserves, jams, liqueurs, syrup and cakes, as well as traditionally roasted chestnuts (“birols”) and “croubels”.
