Water is an integral part of Nuzéjouls’s townscape: the village was built around the water, and an inexhaustible spring still flows on a hillside in the village.
Nature
Further springs emerge below Nuzéjouls; the Boissières stream also runs there. The “Chemin des eaux secrètes” circular trail is 5.8 km long and takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. It is classified as easy and is considered shady. The circular trail starts and ends in Nuzéjouls.
Culture
The Church of Saint Martin features several historic and architectural details: its apse dates from the 12th century and was raised into a tower by the 15th century at the latest. The choir also dates from the 12th century and is Romanesque in design. Its good acoustics make the church a concert venue.
The townscape includes narrow lanes, vaulted passageways and old houses. The homes and public buildings of Nuzéjouls have been completely restored as part of a preserved Quercy architectural style. The name Nuzéjouls means “the clearing of the walnut trees” in Occitan.
Town Structure
Nuzéjouls is divided into two parts: the Bourg, meaning the town centre, and the Causse, a hamlet on the hill and the adjoining plateau near the Bourg.
The Fontaine de l’Hermitage has been located close to the centre of Nuzéjouls for a long time. Its abundant water supplies a drinking fountain, a livestock trough and a washhouse. The Fontaine de l’Hermitage is on the road opposite Nuzéjouls Town Hall; there are numerous parking spaces nearby.
Food and Drink
In the Lot of Saveurs programme, Nuzéjouls was listed as a market stop on 11 August 2026. On that day, the programme included a free Patrimiam tour starting in front of the town hall at 6 p.m., followed by a free gourmet market from 7 p.m.
From 7 p.m., visitors could meet local producers at the traditional gourmet market in the municipal park, talk to them and sample their specialities.
