History and Culture
The Eglise de Cabanac, a chapel, has origins dating back to the 12th century. It stands among vineyards on a plateau above the vanished settlement of Orgueil and the banks of the Lot. Since 1989, the Eglise de Cabanac has been listed in the supplementary register of France's historic monuments.
The remains of the Château de Mauroux include a tower, part of the residential building and several outbuildings. The oldest parts of the Château de Mauroux are thought to date from the 14th century.
The Castrum d'Orgueil was a fortified settlement whose existence probably dates back to the early Middle Ages; it extended along the steep slope between the Mauroux plateau and the Lot. The Castrum d'Orgueil is an archaeologically significant abandoned site that has not been resettled since it was abandoned at the end of the 14th century. Exposed walls as well as discovered furnishings and objects provide evidence of residential and craft use there. A pottery quarter dating from the late 13th and the first half of the 14th century was also discovered.
The “Châteaux et Eglises du Vignoble de Cahors” route passes through three villages and provides access to three castles and two churches.
