Luzech: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Luzech, the Ichnospace displays a 60 m² cast of dinosaur tracks and footprints from a Jurassic beach deposit that is 140 million years old. The Ichnospace is Europe’s first museum dedicated to the tracks and footprints of dinosaurs and fossil animals and bears the “Musée de France” label.

Culture and History

Lou Cantou is a museum of folk art and popular traditions that tells the story of everyday life in Luzech in the past, as well as the occupations, objects, people and stories that shaped the village. Admission to Lou Cantou is free; the museum is open during the season and by appointment.

The Luzech keep is now 24 metres high. Remains of walls, bastions and seven gates, as well as architectural remnants in numerous cellars, have survived from the medieval fortifications. The Maison des Consuls is partially protected as a historic monument and is associated with the medieval municipal authority of the consuls of Luzech.

The Notre-Dame de l’Île Chapel was built in 1504 to protect boatmen. Visits inside the chapel are possible for groups only, by prior reservation with the town hall; each year, the chapel is open during the week around 15 August in accordance with the events programme. The Musée Armand Viré displays more than 500 exhibits. The cellars of Château de Cayx can be visited by appointment.

Landscape

L’Impernal is one of the two dominant limestone elevations of Luzech. A GR 36 hiking trail runs along the Oppidum of Luzech, overlooking the Lot. An orientation panel at the oppidum explains the viewpoint overlooking the entire valley.

Activities

The Musée Planète des Moulins displays more than 200 exhibits that move or can be set in motion. The Caïx Base Nautique offers a combination of an approximately three-hour canoe trip from Douelle to Caix and the approximately one-hour return journey by electric bicycle via the voie verte.
