Livernon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Livernon is located in the Causses du Quercy UNESCO Global Geopark. Among prehistoric monuments, Romanesque religious architecture and the dry-stone landscapes of the Causse, the town reveals a variety of historical and scenic points of interest.

History and Culture

The Dolmen de la Pierre Martine has been listed as a historic monument since 1889. Its chamber served as a tomb for people of the Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods; several human skulls and a copper knife were found there.

The Église Saint-Rémy includes a Romanesque apse and a bell tower, which have been listed as historic monuments since 9 April 1910. The church also has fifteen stained-glass windows dating from the late 19th century.

The Mas de Tourel is a remarkable rural ensemble from the 18th and 19th centuries near the centre of Livernon on the Causse de Gramat. It comprises a cazelle, a bakehouse, a barn and a pigsty. The ensemble was built from dry stone and covered with a roof made of stone slabs.

The Puits Mage is the most significant of Livernon's approximately twenty wells and is largely carved into the rock.

Nature and Landscape

The Mas de Tourel stands in a dry grassland landscape with small oak trees and dry-stone walls. Near Lake Saint-Namphaise lies the Cazelle du Lac de Lacam; the dry-stone structure is reflected in its waters.

Hiking

The Circuit de Livernon-Assier-Viazac is approximately 13 kilometres long and presents no major difficulties. It follows paths across the Causse lined with dry-stone walls and, in the vicinity of Viazac, passes two dolmens and cazelles of exceptional design.

The circular hike to the Menhir de Bélinac begins in Livernon, is 8.2 kilometres long, easy and designed to take around two hours. The Menhir de Bélinac is the largest menhir in the Lot: a limestone slab almost 3.55 metres high that leans slightly to the south.

The summer tourist LIO route 876 serves Livernon and runs between Figeac and Padirac.
