Culture and history

The Château de Labastide-Marnhac was built on the ruins of an earlier castle after the Hundred Years' War, in the late 14th or early 15th century. It is accessed via an old drawbridge flanked by two fortified towers equipped with loopholes.

The church of St. Rémy was the principal church of the estate ruled by the de Jean de Labastide family and became a subsidiary church of the church of Labastide in the mid-16th century. The church of Salgues is mentioned several times in 13th-century documents. Today’s church of Labastide is, in all probability, the former chapel of a hospital founded by Guillaumon de Jean in 1284.

The Peyrelevade Dolmen is considered probably Chalcolithic and was presumably built around 2000 BC. It consists of an overturned and partially destroyed capstone, two supporting stones and a base slab.

Landscape

The Château de Labastide-Marnhac is located in the Lot département, 10 km south of Cahors, on a 318 m-high hill at the edge of a plateau, overlooking the surrounding hills and wide-open valleys. The landscape of the Quercy Blanc around Labastide-Marnhac also includes clay; the natural mixture of limestone and clay is called marl.

The Moulin de la Courounelle was built on the Trespoux plateau in 1772 and overlooks the valley.

Hiking and cycling

The Circuit des Trois Eglises starts in Labastide-Marnhac. It is a hike through the Quercy Blanc, allowing visitors to discover three villages and their churches. The Circuit des Trois Eglises is suitable for horse riders and mountain bikers.
