Flaujac-Poujols: Holiday apartments and houses

The Château de Flaujac reveals the history of its construction: its first building phase dates back to the end of the 13th or the beginning of the 14th century.

Culture

Preserved from the medieval Château de Flaujac are a rectangular section of the building with walls approximately 1.80 metres thick, the remains of a twin window and the ruins of a chapel.

The Église Saint-Martin is a 19th-century church separated from the village by a combe. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross; the nave and flat apse are covered with rib vaults. The furnishings also include a polychrome stone statue of Saint James.

Landscape

Flaujac-Poujols has been part of the Parc Naturel Régional des Causses du Quercy since 2012.

The landscape is characterised by more or less narrow and deeply cut combes, overlooked by several pechs no more than 300 metres high. These pechs form limestone hills that are wooded wherever the soil is sufficiently deep.

The Pech de Jammes winery is located in a south-facing, amphitheatre-shaped walled area enclosed by a traditional dry-stone wall.

Culinary delights

At Pech de Jammes, visitors can experience truffle hunting and harvesting accompanied by a dog, known as cavage. Wine tasting at the winery is also available on request.

Walking routes

The circular route “Quelques pas sur le chemin de Saint-Jacques” begins and ends in Flaujac-Poujols. It is 6 km long, takes 1 hour 30 minutes and is considered easy. The route initially passes through a valley, then follows the GR65 towards Compostela before returning to the village.

The “Balade sur Flaujac-Poujols” begins at the Église Saint-Martin, runs mainly along paths and includes a short section on the road. After 4 km, it reaches a water point at the Mairie.
