Culture and History

The Ancienne église Sainte-Marie de Lurps has been protected and listed as a historic monument since 30 July 1986.

The Église Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in Saint-Pastous is a Romanesque church that was extensively remodelled between 1783 and 1786. It includes a portico dating from 1786 and an apse with sculpted corbels. The right side chapel contains a gilded wooden relief of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, while the left side chapel contains a gilded wooden statue of Saint Roch.

The hamlet of Saint-Germès in the municipality of Saint-Pastous, together with Sainte-Marie (de Lurp), was a fully fledged parish until the beginnings of the Revolution and housed a church and a lay abbey. By a decree dated 9 October 1752, Saint-Germès lost its status as a parish; this decree was confirmed by a royal patent in April 1768. The site was converted into a simple votive chapel under the jurisdiction of the parish of Sainte-Marie de Lurp.

The former Château de Saint-Pastous was an imposing castle with three wings, a stable, a small garden and surrounding walls. The restored Abbaye laïque de Saint-Germès stands on a rocky promontory overlooking the valley. The church of Sainte-Marie-de-Lurp was mentioned in 1342 as an annex of Saint-Pastous.
