The banks of the Adour and Echez, the two rivers that flow through Maubourguet, provide an ideal setting for walks.

The GR®101 passes through the Adour Valley and over wooded slopes. Along its north–south route, the Pyrenean mountain range can be seen.

Culture

The church is the only surviving building of the former St Martin de Celle monastery. The Fontaine Nymphes de l’Adour stands on the banks of the Adour on Boulevard Lapalu and features two bronze statues.

At the Musée archéologique de Maubourguet, the mosaic decoration combines the god Oceanus with groups of octopuses, ducks, dolphins and fish. One of the museum’s outstanding exhibits is a 20 m² mosaic of the god Oceanus, displayed in accordance with its place of discovery.

The mosaic in the Musée archéologique de Maubourguet is listed as a protected historic monument; the listing was established by decree on 7 July 1980 and amended by decree on 15 September 2021.

From the GR®653 at Maubourguet, the GR®101 connects to Lourdes in three stages over 61 kilometres. In the Hautes-Pyrénées département, the GR®653 runs for 28 kilometres at the level of Maubourguet.

Market

Maubourguet’s traditional weekly market takes place every Tuesday morning in the market hall and on Place de la Libération. Producers, traders and craftspeople come together there, offering fresh produce and regional specialities.
