Winter sports

The Marmotte route connects La Mongie and Barèges via eleven kilometres of blue and green ski runs. The Grand Tourmalet ski area also has a freestyle area and a snow park with boxes, rails and other modules.

In winter, a pedestrian pass from La Mongie provides access to the Col du Tourmalet via the Chapelle and Espade chairlifts; snowshoes are compulsory along the route. The pass also includes the “Nox” and “Le Col des Géants” shows.

Nature

Pic du Midi is a classified natural site and has been designated an International Dark Sky Reserve. The access to the Pic du Midi cable car is located in La Mongie station. A visit to Pic du Midi begins with a 15-minute ascent to the summit.

The peaks of le Taoulet, Pic de Pène Blanque, Pic de Barassé and Crête de Guilhembrume are located in the immediate vicinity of La Mongie.

Access and orientation

La Mongie can be reached by road all year round. In winter, the Col du Tourmalet is closed to traffic, so La Mongie can only be accessed via the Bagnères-de-Bigorre valley.

The La Mongie tourist office has a shop selling souvenirs and regional products.

Culture

Escaladieu is a historic site and Cistercian abbey in the wider region around La Mongie. The historic site of Abbaye Saint-Savin-en-Lavedan is also located in this wider region. The Château Fort there is a castle.

The Église Saint-Blaise-et-Saint-Martin d'Ancizan church is located in the vicinity of La Mongie.
