Germ: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Germ lies at the foot of the Peyragudes ski area and administratively includes the Peyresourde slope and the hamlet of Balestas. At approximately 1,350 metres, Germ is the highest village in the Louron Valley.

Nature

The Route 6A-Plateau de Germ is a 4.3-kilometre loop with 180 metres of ascent and 180 metres of descent. The loop around the Plateau de Germ is a panoramic circular trail across the plateau, where the film “Les quatre saisons du berger” about the life of shepherd Alphonse Ousteau was filmed.

The GR10 route provides access to the Cabane d’Ourtiga via a yellow-marked, 20-minute detour. The hut is situated at an altitude of 1,620 metres and provides shelter for six people. The GR10 also offers a way to reach Haute-Garonne via Germ, either over the Pas de Couret or via Couret d’Esquierry. The GR10 variant via Germ and the Pas de Couret or Couret d’Esquierry takes approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Culture

The village of Germ was completely destroyed by fire in 1690 and subsequently rebuilt step by step. The Notre-Dame de la Rosaire Chapel in Germ was built in 1597. The Notre-Dame-Des-Sept-Douleurs Chapel in Germ was built in 1832; the Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs in Germ has an elongated floor plan.

The Auberge de Germ restaurant in Germ serves Basque and Pyrenean specialities.

Winter
