Gavarnie-Gèdre is part of the cross-border Pyrénées-Mont-Perdu World Heritage Site, which was recognised in December 1997 for its natural values and the quality of its cultural landscape.

Culture
The Moulins de Gèdre-Dessus are watermills dating from the 14th century. One of the mills remained in operation until 1985. From the village of Gèdre, the mills can be reached via a walk of approximately 30 minutes.
The Église Saint Matthieu de Gèdre was built in the neo-Gothic style at the end of the 19th century. It was built near the site of an earlier church with a tower; this church belonged to the Hospitallers of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem.
Millaris is a museum in Gèdre that presents the Gavarnie-Gèdre area and conveys the history of the valley through a chronological timeline.
The Héas sanctuary has been known since 1349. The Chapelle Notre-Dame d’Héas is located at the foot of the Cirque de Troumouse at an altitude of 1,540 m. The present-day Chapelle Notre-Dame d’Héas replaced the chapel destroyed in January 1915 in 1928.
Nature
The circular route “Le Tour du lac des Gloriettes” leads from Gèdre around the lake. It is easy, 2.7 km long and takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Along the way, it passes through several high-altitude ecosystems.
“Le Plateau de Saugué depuis Saussa” is a difficult, 10 km out-and-back route with approximately 320 m of elevation gain and an approximate duration of four hours; it begins above Gèdre.
Seasonal Information
The Chapelle Notre-Dame d’Héas is accessible from 1 May to 1 November and is open daily during this period; in winter, the access road is closed.
Following the storms of 8 August 2026, several sections in the Ripeyre/Barrada area were damaged; access to the Col de Ripeyre is closed until further notice.

Gèdre’s municipal swimming pool has two heated, south-facing outdoor pools, including one pool for children.
