Chis lies in the Adour plain and is bordered by the banks of the Alaric Canal. The village therefore combines a distinctive landscape with a range of cultural and local features that remain visible to this day.
Culture and History
The church of Chis dates from the 19th century. Inside, there is a statue of Saint Ferréol from the early 16th century. The village’s religious history also includes the Saint-Ferréol Chapel, where two statues were objects of deep veneration for centuries. The traditional feast days of Saint Ferréol fell on 15 August and 18 September. On these days, believers from the neighbouring parishes came to the chapel to pray before the two statues.
The church bells, too, tell of different eras: the small bell of Chis dates from 1851 and was donated by Count Henri de Castelbajac and Léontine de Villeneuve. The larger Marie Ferréol bell was consecrated in 1967. Another testament to the local history is the small château of Léontine de Villeneuve, Countess of Castelbajac. It was built in the 19th century and is now Ferme Saint Ferréol.
Nature and Trails
The Trait Vert route runs through the centre of the municipality of Chis. The network of trails covers 165 kilometres divided among 12 circular routes, which can be used by pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders. The Trait Vert routes are accessible on foot and can be used by bicycle; unless otherwise indicated, the circular routes can also be covered on horseback.
Chis also has an especially high concentration of riding clubs. Riding clubs are therefore just as much a part of the local character as the Trait Vert network that runs through the municipality.

O'Domaine St Ferreol also offers a seasonal table and brunch in a late-17th-century charterhouse. Monthly meals were also planned there, each centred either on a seasonal product from short supply chains or on an English brunch.
