In the vicinity of Bonnemazon lies the Abbaye de l’Escaladieu, a Cistercian abbey and historic site. As a former Cistercian site, its history dates back to around 1140.

Culture
A renovated former farm belonging to the Abbaye de l’Escaladieu houses a multimedia centre. It exhibits glazed tiles found on site as well as elements of the cloister, including capitals and columns. An interactive tour conveys the history of the site and the Cistercian movement through eyewitness accounts, historical reconstructions and illustrations.
The apparently old church of Bonnemazon was extensively remodelled in the 18th century. Since the beginning of the 20th century, it has possessed the bells of the Cistercian abbey of Escaladieu.
Nature
The park of the Abbaye de l’Escaladieu has been classified as a remarkable group of trees since 2016. It provides retreats for owls, bats, songbirds and insects.
Trails
The historic hike “De l’Abbaye de l’Escaladieu au Château de Mauvezin” connects the Cistercian abbey with the fortified Château de Mauvezin of Gaston Fébus.
The route “Le chemin de la Cantère” is stated to take 2 hours and 35 minutes. The GR78 forms part of this route, which runs along the Arros and leads to Bonnemazon after crossing the river.
Geographical setting
The Montagne de Billexe is a summit in the wider regional surroundings of Bonnemazon. Also located in these wider regional surroundings as summits are the Pic d'Aste, the Casque du Lhéris and the Pic d'Arneille. The Château d'Odos dit de Marguerite de Navarre is a castle there, the Musée Massey is a museum, and the Cloitre du jardin Massey is a historic site.
