Le Dolium presents its archaeological collection in 16 display cases; it includes remarkable objects from prehistory, antiquity and the Middle Ages. At Le Dolium, objects from local CERAMES surveys also illustrate the history of the Save Valley from the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages. Le Dolium has a 60 m² space for temporary exhibitions of artworks, collections or themed exhibitions.

Le Dolium organises guided tours as well as activities and workshops for children from primary school, collège and lycée, in cooperation with teachers. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Montpézat can include the village in their travel plans.

Culture and History

The circular castle mound is all that remains of the former castle complex of Montpézat. The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption was rebuilt in 1841 in the Neoclassical style at the foot of the former motte. Its west façade features a triangular pediment above a large portal; the portal is accessible via several steps. The octagonal bell tower is decorated at the base of its spire with an openwork gallery.

The wooden market hall of Montpézat dates from the Middle Ages and was rebuilt in 1879. A former national road runs beneath the wooden market hall.

Landscape

The former castle complex of Montpézat is situated on a ridge that separates the valley of an unnamed stream from the valley of the Gradou. Since 1817, the windmill has stood at this location, the highest point in the municipality of Montpézat. An orientation table was planned for the windmill to encourage walkers to visit this historically significant site and enjoy the view.
