Churches and Art
In Bernet, the Église Sainte-Foy was rebuilt in the 15th century by Pierre-Arnaud de Castelbajac, who was Bishop of Pamiers from 1483 to 1494. Its choir is illuminated by two Gothic windows: one is in the Rayonnant style, while the other is in the Flamboyant style. The choir also features 19th-century wall paintings.
The Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption is also one of the village’s religious buildings. Its choir contains a large altarpiece and three paintings mounted on a solid surface.
History
The Château Bernet is privately owned and cannot be visited. It can be seen from the road to the Chapelle Bernet and from the PR04 hiking trail, the Sentier du Mont Cassin starting from Ponsan-Soubiran.
During the Second World War, the privately owned Château Bernet often served as a meeting place for the staff of the Corps Franc Pommiès and, after certain operations, as a retreat.
Hiking
The Sentier du Mont Cassin is designated for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. The Sentier du Mont Cassin PR04 is an 8-kilometre circular hike. It is also an 8-kilometre circular route with a maximum elevation of 377 metres.
At an elevation of 377 metres on the Sentier du Mont Cassin, there is a viewpoint with an information board, picnic tables and a water point.
