Culture and History
The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Maupas is a 15th-century church. Its square bell tower is topped by a four-sided pavilion. The lower walls feature 18th-century wall panelling made of oak and walnut. The church also contains a painting of the Crucifixion signed by ARTIGUES and dated 1848. It also houses a painted and gilded wooden statue of the Virgin and Child from the 18th century.
The Église Saint-Roch stands on a natural elevation. Its bell tower has a square base and is topped by an octagonal campanile.
The name Maupas is associated with “mauvais pas” (“bad step”) and a former hideout used by robbers. An origin story about Maupas connects the settlement of the area with the construction of a castle built to drive away robbers.

The “Circuit des Vignobles – à vélo” cycle route passes through Maupas. The route is 80.0 kilometres long and takes 4 hours and 15 minutes.
