The Église Saint-Blaise has been listed as a historic monument by decree of 6 September 1978. Romanesque sections are still visible on parts of its eastern and northern walls. One of the chapels is said to date from 1665. Guided tours are available for the church.
History
Local traditions associate the nearby motte with the tomb of a Gallic leader who is said to have been buried with a treasure of gold coins. The medieval motte castrale of the Lords of Lamazère served as an ideal observation post above the ford on the Petite-Baïse. In the 12th century, it was abandoned in favour of the present-day château.
The Tourraque d’Ortolas is located 1.5 km north of Lamazère on the right bank of the Petite Baïse and is 5.50 m high. The Gallo-Roman pile on the site of Ortholas is called a “Turraque” in Gascony and is said to date from the 3rd century. The Pile de Lamazère was classified as a historic monument in 1963.
Routes
At the hamlet of “Charles”, a small stone arch bridge spans the Petite Baïse; it lies along the route of the former railway line. The “Following the Baïse” route follows a small road along the Petite Baïse to Lamazère.
