Laas: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Laas lies in the Osse Valley and combines a rich local history with the Route de César. The lords of Laas have been documented in the Cartulary of Berdoues since the 12th century. Anyone planning a stay in Laas will want to rent a holiday apartment there.

Culture and History

The present-day Château de Laas dates from the 17th and 18th centuries and is privately owned. To the north of the church of Laas, there once stood a stately castle surrounded by moats; the present-day Château de Laas was built in its place. The Église Notre-Dame-des-Neiges de Laas is also part of the village landscape and stands directly beside the village cemetery.

The sights also include a 17th-century manor house in the hamlet of Méliet. Laas thus brings together several historical points of reference without conflating the different periods in which they originated.

Route de César

In Laas, the north–south ridge path forms part of the ancient Route de César. The route passing through Laas was an important cross-border route and transhumance route for several centuries. It once connected Bordeaux with the central Pyrenees without requiring the crossing of bridges or fords.

Land and Regional Produce

La Chèvre et le Chou is located in the hamlet of Méliet, a small family farm on the slopes of the municipality of Laas. Around sixty Alpine goats are kept there, and their milk is made into cheese.
