History

In 1249, Guillaume de Gaujac swore allegiance to the French Crown and to the heir of the last Count of Toulouse. Saint Martin’s Church was built at the end of the 19th century on a promontory in the Neo-Gothic style. Its façade features alternating bands of brick and stone, giving it a striped appearance. West of the church, a chapel with the burial places of a family stands in the cemetery; it dates from the same period as the church. A large statue of the Virgin Mary stands at Le Tuco. An iron cross in the Bertin style can be seen at the east end of the church.

Gaujac is located near the Marcaoue, a tributary of the Gimone, in a natural setting suitable for hiking and cycling routes through the Savès. The location of the statue at Le Tuco offers beautiful views of the Pyrenees. The hill of Le Plèche lies in the vicinity of Gaujac.

Culture

The Balade des Coteaux et Vallée de l’Esquinson passes through Gaujac; on the section leading through the village, a path leads to a ridge where a statue stands. The Site de la Vierge is considered a stop on local discovery walks.
