Culture and history

The present-day parish church of Escornebœuf is the Église Sainte-Quitterie and dates from the mid-19th century. Its chancel terminates to the west, contrary to the traditional eastward orientation, and the church was built using materials reused from two earlier churches. The Église Sainte-Quitterie also contains a 16th-century statue of Sainte Quitterie.

The Chapelle Saint-Jean de Las Monges is a chapel. Its nave ends in a barrel-vaulted apse with two capitals decorated with animals. The site of the former Église Sainte-Marie de la Garnison is marked by the tombstone of the parish priest François Sudre, who died in 1773. The original village of Escornebœuf was located near the Marcaoue and was relocated after repeated flooding.
