Culture and History
Endoufielle is an old fortified village, a castelnau built on a hilltop. The Église Saint-Germier was built on the site of the original castle of Endoufielle and dates from the 16th or 17th century. Its bell gable tower has five openings and three bells.
One of the middle bells of the Église Saint-Germier probably bears the year 1514 and may be one of the oldest bells in the département. In front of the church stands a statue of the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child. Beneath the right-hand section of the porch, a winch used to hoist hearses during funerals is still present.
The Chapelle Saint-Roch dates from the 16th century and was rebuilt on the ruins of a church destroyed during the Revolution in 1793. The site of the Chapelle Saint-Roch was formerly occupied by the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Pitié, a place of pilgrimage for the inhabitants of Marestaing. The Chapelle Saint-Roch is a historical monument that can be visited free of charge.
Endoufielle's heritage sites include a ruined windmill. There is also a brick mill on the Boulouze.
