The former Cistercian abbey of Berdoues was founded around 1134 by Walfred Gauthier, Abbot of Morimond, at the request of Count Bernard IV of Astarac and his son Sans.

Culture and History

A guided hydraulic exhibition at the Moulin de Berdoues explains the important role of the two Baïses in a bygone era and the settlement of numerous mills at that time, almost all of which have since disappeared.

Since 2008, the European Heritage Days at the Moulin de Berdoues have provided an opportunity to bring the mill back to life. During visits to the Moulin de Berdoues, visitors received detailed explanations of how its machinery worked; the miller Guy Saint-Agne shared his knowledge of his former profession.

The Forêt Domaniale de l’Armagnac near Berdoues is considered a biodiversity reserve; there are trails there that are accessible to everyone.
