Culture and History

The Château de Bazian is protected in its entirety as a historic monument, including the surrounding wall, the well and the south wing. Inside, wall paintings from the late 16th to early 17th century have been preserved. The present-day château also features alterations from the 16th and 17th centuries and extends over three levels.

The fortified tower of Bazian was listed as a historic monument by decree of 1 August 1974. It is one of the last surviving examples of the village fortifications.

Only the gate tower and some remains of the walls adjoining the eastern side of the gate survive from the former settlement of Saint-Yors. The fortified gate is considered to be a relic of the village fortifications probably dating from the late Middle Ages. The former castelnau of Saint-Yors lies on the left bank of the Mouliaque stream, a few metres north of the château and 1.5 kilometres south-west of the village of Bazian.

Some old houses in Bazian retain very old timber-framed elements. The Church of Saint-André is historically connected with the castelnau. Bazian's cultural heritage also includes a gilded wooden tabernacle from the 15th to 16th century.
