Barran: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Tour Porte is the only fully preserved gate tower of a bastide in the Gers département. The 10-metre-high tower has a vaulted entrance level as well as an upper level for observation and defence.

Culture

The Chapelle de la Castagnère is a Romanesque church from the 12th century with a bell gable housing three bells. It has been listed in the register of Monuments historiques since 7 September 1978.

The Collégiale Saint-Jean-Baptiste has a twisted, screw-shaped spire and is the southernmost twisted church tower in France.

History

The Château de Mazères was the country residence of the Archbishops of Auch. During the First World War, it served as a military hospital for the wounded and sick. The Château de Mazères is listed as a historic site and historic monument.
