Le Clapas du Diable is an extensive prehistoric oppidum and a viewpoint overlooking the Lumensonesque Valley and its confluence with the Malbosc gorge ravine. As a moderately difficult PR hiking loop, the route is 10.1 km long, takes 3 hours and includes 455 m of ascent and descent. The loop can be reached via the D809 or exit 44 of the A75; Avenue des Acacias is indicated as the parking location.

Hiking

The La Blaquière–Saint-Jean-de-Liverset loop is a moderately difficult hiking trail covering 11.3 km, with a duration of 3 hours 30 minutes and themes including water, fauna, flora and viewpoints. It starts and ends at the Salle des fêtes in Verrières and runs entirely within Verrières. The trail leads to the ruins of the Saint-Jean-de-Liverset chapel. Another loop, La Rouquette–Le Clapas du Diable, passes the old castle.

Culture

The Romanesque Saint-Amant d’Escoudournac Chapel overlooks the Lumensonesque Valley. Its features include a mural of the Virgin with the seven swords, a 17th-century altarpiece and gargoyles.

The Church of Saint-Sauveur dates from 1099; the Saint-Sauveur priory is a Romanesque building. The church is part of the “Romanesque heritage along the Muse Valley, the Raspes du Tarn and the surrounding area” route, which focuses on Romanesque cultural history.

Landscape

The Lumensonesque is a 16.5 km-long watercourse that rises in the Massif du Pal and flows into the Tarn. Since 2002, the Viaduc de Verrières on the A75 has spanned the valley at a height of almost 140 m. Verrières is located in the Parc Naturel Régional des Grands Causses.

Cycling

The Circuit du Causse Rouge is a moderately difficult 26 km mountain biking loop with a duration of 3 hours 30 minutes and 950 m of ascent. The route climbs through the Coursac nature reserve and then reaches the Causse Rouge.
