The Lande de Mayrinhac is located within the municipality of Taussac at an altitude of around 750 metres. The area is protected as a Natura 2000 site under the 1979 European Birds Directive. Heathland, meadows, cultivated land, forests and rocks create exceptional biological diversity there.

Numerous bird species can be observed on the Lande de Mayrinhac, including red kites, short-toed snake eagles, European honey buzzards and eagle owls. An established discovery trail with information panels leads through the natural area.

Culture

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption in Taussac dates from the 15th century and contains folk artworks from the 17th century. Taussac Castle dates back to a fort that stood there in the 13th century.

The Maison du Bois in Taussac was uninhabited for almost a century. In 2009, it was acquired by the municipality together with its furniture, linens, crockery and personal belongings. These items provide information about the everyday life of a family before the First World War.

Trails and Activities

The Jardin des 5 Sens is an educational garden next to the Maison du Bois on the Taussac circular trail La Forêt Magique. La Forêt Magique includes wooden huts and an open-air theatre. It is open all year round and free to access.

La Forêt Magique is an easy 4.5-kilometre circular hike lasting around 2 hours and 15 minutes. The hike at the Ronesque leads through the deeply carved valleys of the Goul and its tributaries. A variant of this hike leads to the Chapelle de Lez, which dates from 1745 and was restored in 1897.

Ranch du Barrez offers recreational riding or competitive riding year-round for all age groups and ability levels, as well as themed courses during the school holidays. It also offers trail rides and horseback hikes lasting one hour, one day or several days.
