Sauveterre-de-Rouergue was founded in 1281 by Guillaume de Macon, Seneschal of Rouergue, on behalf of King Philippe III the Bold. The Church of Saint-Christophe is the former collegiate church of the bastide and was built from the 14th century onwards within the fortifications.
