Culture and History

The Collégiale de Saint-Sernin was elevated to collegiate church status in 1442 and expanded with several chapels in the second half of the 15th century. It is open to visitors free of charge year-round. On Place du Fort stands a basalt statue commemorating Victor, the wild boy. Victor, the wild boy of Aveyron, was captured in Saint-Sernin on January 8, 1800.

The statue of the Dame de Saint-Sernin was discovered on Saint-Martin Hill in 1888. A copy of this statue is displayed on Place du Fort. The Balade numérique à St Sernin is an approximately 1.5-hour cultural tour using the free Balades Grands Causses mobile app. The former hydroelectric facility at the leisure complex was built in 1910; its diversion channel is still visible.

Nature and Trails

The Rance River borders Saint-Sernin-sur-Rance. The Sentier de Galtéry passes through the countryside around Saint-Sernin-sur-Rance, lined with oak trees, conifers, and dry-stone walls. The trail runs from the center of Saint-Sernin to the hamlet of Galtéry through gently sloping rural terrain.

The Sentier des Pics Verts offers views over Saint-Sernin and passes through woodland, particularly chestnut groves in the Rance Valley. The Sentier du Patrimoine is a moderately difficult trail approximately 8.46 km long, taking about 2.5 hours and lined with twelve educational panels.

The Sentier du Salès connects the historic center of Saint-Sernin with the lower riverbanks and is designed as a family-friendly walking route. It is a very easy 1.8 km walk that takes about one hour.

Leisure

The La Chaussée du Lapin leisure complex has a swimming pool and water slides by the river. It also offers boules and volleyball courts, picnic and barbecue areas, a children's playground, and a place for fishing.

A Chasse au Trésor à Saint-Sernin was organized in the old village in July and August for children aged 3 to 12. They solve riddles and decipher a code to open a treasure chest.

In Saint-Sernin, it is traditional to try the Gimbelette made by Pâtisserie Nespoulous.
