Culture and History

The church of Saint-Cyprien preserves the surviving elements of a Romanesque bay dating from the late 12th century, which supports the bell tower. The bell tower, the Flamboyant choir with its distinctive vaulting system of liernes and tiercerons, the side chapels, and the first bay of the nave date from extensive renovations carried out in the 15th and 16th centuries. The bell tower was built in 1562 by the master mason Antoine Fumel.

The church in Arjac is a massive red sandstone building dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. It stands on a hill overlooking the plain of Saint-Cyprien in the valley. The upper floor contains rooms that served as a refuge for the population in times of unrest; more commonly, they could also be used for storage. The church's furnishings include a high altar reredos with a central Calvary scene, as well as statues of Saint Roch of Montpellier and Saint Francis de Sales.
