Culture
In the historic centre of Marcillac-Vallon, the Centre d’art photographique Pierre Soulages presents two exhibitions in honour of Pierre Soulages. The Chapelle des Pénitents dates from 1666 and is now the starting point of the Saint-Bourrou procession.
The Association des Amis des Orgues du Vallon regularly organises concerts on the organ of the Église Saint-Martial. The Association des Amis de Foncourrieu opens the Chapelle de Foncourrieu for visits on Sunday afternoons in summer. On Whit Monday, an open-air mass is celebrated there during the Saint-Bourrou wine and winemakers’ festival.
Pont Rouge is a viaduct and the last surviving testimony to Marcillac’s 19th-century steelmaking era.
Activities
The Piscine de Marcillac has two pools, including a heated 25-metre pool and a paddling pool, and offers supervised swimming.
The BMX/MTB pump track in Marcillac is a dirt track with rollers and banked curves. It is freely accessible every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is unsupervised; its use is prohibited in rain, snow and at night.
The hiking route around Saint-Jean-le-Froid passes through vineyards and then reaches the chapel there at an altitude of 566 metres.

The Marcillac vineyard is laid out in terraces on the slopes; the terraces are supported by dry-stone walls. Marcillac-Vallon’s dry-stone heritage includes cazelles as shelters, communaux for demarcating plots, and agricultural dry-stone walls.
