La Capelle-Balaguier: Holiday apartments and houses

History

The historic entrance to La Capelle-Balaguier was through a vaulted gateway beneath the present-day town hall, which was formerly a rectory. The central square keep of La Capelle-Balaguier was completely demolished in the 1950s.

On 2 May 1448, Gaspard de Balaguier granted the inhabitants of La Capelle-Balaguier the 600-hectare area of Le Frau.

The original Templar cross was brought to La Capelle-Balaguier.

Location

La Capelle-Balaguier lies west of the bastide town of Villeneuve and between Villefranche-de-Rouergue and Cajarc. The village is 13 kilometres from both towns.

Landscape

Following land consolidation, Le Frau is used for arable farming and grazing. Around 30 kilometres of marked hiking trails run through Le Frau.

The Les Mas du Causse route follows old paths across the Causse de Salvagnac. These paths bear the marks of wear from former carts and are lined with dry-stone walls and dense, fragrant boxwood.

Places and trails

In La Capelle-Balaguier, you can discover the Fontvieille washhouse. It has a storage tank fed by a spring, which supplies two basins.

The Les Mas du Causse route is marked with yellow signs by CDRP12 volunteers in accordance with the FFRandonnée charter. On foot, it takes 3 hours and 45 minutes and leads to the Templar cross.
