Firmi: Holiday Apartments and Houses
Two routes pass through Firmi: the GR 65 Way of St. James crosses the town on its way from Le Puy-en-Velay towards Decazeville and Livinhac-le-Haut. The Conques–Toulouse route also runs through Firmi, connecting the Via Arles with the route to Santiago de Compostela.
Visitors searching for Firmi are looking for a holiday apartment to rent.
Nature
Puy de Wolf is a Natura 2000 site with rare and distinctive habitats, as well as rare and distinctive flora and fauna. Some plant species found there are endemic. The hill has a volcanic appearance, and its serpentinite rock displays greenish reflections.
At the summit of Puy de Wolf, there is an orientation table and a panoramic view over the valley.
By the Water and on the Way
Plan d'eau de la Forézie has picnic tables and a children's playground. Fishing is permitted there year-round in a second-category fishing waterway.
Aire de Fonteilles on the GR 65 in the hills above Firmi provides hikers with shelters, tables, a drinking-water fountain and dry toilets.
Culture and History
The archaeological collections from Girmou are presented in an exhibition at the La Serpentine cultural centre in Firmi. They originate from excavations of a Gallo-Roman villa built around 50 BC.
Industrial iron and steel production began in Firmi's mining basin on 24 December 1828, with the first casting at the La Forézie site.
Plants and Agriculture
Le Sentier des Plantes organically produces and processes aromatic and medicinal plants, as well as fruit, on its farm in Firmi. From mid-May to mid-October, guided tours of the cultivation gardens for aromatic and medicinal plants are offered on Thursdays by reservation only, or—depending on the weather—of the processing workshop. The tours include an introduction to the profession of the Paysan-Herboriste, an explanation of the working methods, product tasting and a farm shop.
Une Sorcière sur le toit offers insights at its farm in Firmi into an organically managed agroforestry plot and the areas where plants are gathered. The farm also provides information about the properties and uses of wild and cultivated medicinal plants, as well as the main methods used to extract their active ingredients.
