Coupiac is located in the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park. A network of restored rural paths and signposted hiking trails connects the village with the surrounding villages and is suitable for walks.
The Sentier de Vérouls is a moderately difficult 9.8 km circular hike with a walking time of approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes and 328 metres of elevation gain. The route follows old rural paths through fields and beech forests, as well as along streams and cascades.
The 1.4-hectare Masnaut pond is a first-category fishing water and has two fishing jetties as well as various fishing spots. The banks of the Masnaut millpond are equipped for various fishing techniques and are situated in a peaceful natural setting.
Cuisine
The “Les lundis au pays” market in Coupiac offers tastings and the sale of regional products. Visitors buy meals from local producers and eat them in the village square in a musical atmosphere. The offerings include, among other things, grilled dishes, cold meats, vegetable dishes, aligot, pastries and ice cream.
Culture
The Château de Coupiac is an elegant residential château with the appearance of a medieval fortress. It dates essentially from the second half of the 15th century and predominantly features Flamboyant Gothic architecture. Panels in each room provide information about historical and architectural aspects.
The Musée rural du bois is located on the second floor of the Château de Coupiac. It presents aspects of village history associated with woodworking, sculpture and old tools.
The Château de Coupiac offers tailored guided tours for groups of adults, school classes and leisure centres. Optional workshops on everyday life in the Middle Ages are also available. These include food, medieval games, calligraphy and chain-mail making. Each activity lasts approximately one hour and requires a minimum of 10 people.
The Chapelle du Saint-Voile is decorated with Neo-Byzantine frescoes by Nicolaî GRESCHNY. It formerly housed a relic of the Holy Veil, which, according to local tradition, was attributed to the Virgin Mary and venerated for eye ailments. The chapel is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00.
