Cornus: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Sentier d'interprétation de Cornus is a one-kilometre-long trail that takes about an hour to complete and features ten information panels. It presents historical evidence of the village, which is closely linked to the presence of springs such as the Dèvre and the Sorgues.
Nature and Landscape
The Guilhaumard Plateau is a sensitive natural area (ENS), characterised by ruiniform rocks and cliffs shaped by erosion. 1,850 plant species grow on the Guilhaumard Plateau, including many endemic species. Golden eagles and peregrine falcons can be observed there all year round. The PR44 hiking trail leads to the Guilhaumard Plateau and takes in characteristic karst formations such as ruiniform rocks, a resurgence spring, an aven and a cave. From spring onwards, botany enthusiasts explore the Guilhaumard Plateau for its diverse flora, particularly its orchids. A hiking trail near the village of Mas Raynal, between Cornus and Le Clapier, invites visitors to explore the protected natural area of the Guilhaumard Plateau.
Cycling and Trails
The Guilhaumard Plateau has cycling trails that are consistently described as dead ends. The car park for the Guilhaumard route is located 500 metres before the village of Mas Raynal when coming from Canals.
Culture
The present-day Church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens replaced Notre-Dame and was consecrated on 26 July 1688. It features a monumental altarpiece made of white limestone. The Protestant temple of Cornus stands in the upper part of the village.
On Site
The Maison du Guilhaumard is free to enter and open daily during the season. Thematic panels there provide information about the development of the landscape, pastoralism, fauna, flora, geology and the remarkable cultural heritage of the Guilhaumard area. The permanent exhibition presents the karst features of the limestone plateau, formed by intense erosion on the surface and cracking inside, including avens, caves and sinkholes.
