Townscape

The historic centre of Colombiès, formerly called Colombier, comprises numerous characterful houses with external staircases and enclosed courtyards. Features dating from the 15th and 16th centuries can be found on doors and windows.

The historic building stock also includes two manor houses: Château du Mazet is a bourgeois manor house dating from 1750 and was formerly owned by the Baron de Balsac. Château du Périé was built by the de Saunhac-Belcastel family and was later owned by the agronomist Jules Bonhomme.

Nature

Colombiès is included in the protected Vallée de l’Aveyron area, a type 2 ZNIEFF. The landscape comprises agricultural plots, bocage hedgerows and heathland, forests, and rock outcrops.

Hiking

The Vallée de Zahaux hike is 13.2 km long and has an elevation gain of 250 metres. The Colombiès–Les Cabanes–Merlet hike is 10 km long and takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. The Limayrac–Château du Périé route is 7 km long and takes approximately 2 hours.

The Vallée de l’Aveyron–Talespues route is 8.2 km long and takes approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. The Combrouze–La Croix de la Pause route leads to the Croix de la Pause and crosses the Zahaux stream via several footbridges; it is 11 km long and takes approximately 3 hours.

History

At Roc d’Anglars, restored fortification remains can be found in the Aveyron valley, not far from Belcastel. The yellow-marked route “Le Ségala à pied: Vers le site de Belcastel” leads to Belcastel, which is one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France.
