Nature

The Lagast state forest covers 89 hectares and consists of beech and coniferous trees. In the Lagast forest, a glassmaker’s furnace can be seen as a small dry-stone structure.

The Hêtraie interpretive trail is 2,800 metres long. It conveys information about the forest ecosystem and explains the development of the beech from the mast stage to a mature stand.

Paths and Orientation

The GRP trail “Grand tour des Monts et Lacs du Lévézou” runs through the Lagast forest. A nature walk leads to the 928-metre-high summit of Lagast, while a second trail, 1,700 metres long, leads to the restored geodetic point.

The Lagast forest can be reached via the RD25 and RD56 departmental roads. An information board near the pyramid on Lagast offers a 360° view of the horizon.

The Lagast picnic area is a starting point for walks in the forest and offers picnic tables in a shady setting.

Culture

Saint Leonard Church was rebuilt after a lightning-induced fire in 1948. It houses a painting of Saint Leonard, the patron saint of the parish.
