Culture

The Maison de Jehan-Séré was built in 1575 and is a half-timbered house. The Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Daurade was rebuilt in the mid-16th century on the site of an 11th-century church. In Tarascon-sur-Ariège, it is listed as a historic monument; it was listed by decree dated 13 November 1990.

History

The present-day Tour du Castella was built in the 18th century on the site of a rectangular medieval keep and offers a viewpoint over Tarascon-sur-Ariège city centre and the surrounding area. The “Sur les rails du temps” route leads to the 14th-century Porte d’Espagne, which dominated the southern entrance to the town, and ends at the 14th-century Tour Saint-Michel.
