Culture and History
The present-day Église Saint-Anastase was almost completely rebuilt between 1878 and 1887. Only the bases of the bell tower and choir remained. During the rebuilding, the base of the side walls of the Romanesque sanctuary and parts of the Romanesque bell tower were also preserved.
The Église Saint-Anastase has a tower with crenellated turrets and gargoyles, as well as a slate pyramid roof. The church is protected in its entirety as a Monument historique; this also includes the uncadastralized ground of the square surrounding it.
Paths and Views
Boucle 2 via the D27 in Saint-Martin-d'Oydes is an easy 3.4-kilometre hike lasting around 50 minutes. A marked footpath offers views of the fortified village and vistas of the Pyrenees mountain range to the south.
The Terrefort Ariégeois cycling loop, number 4, leads to Saint-Martin-d'Oydes. Boucle 1 passes the Fontaine Sainte-Anastase, a local pilgrimage site considered miraculous for eye ailments.
Surroundings
The surrounding area is home to the Musée Pierre Bayle, a museum; the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Calers, a historic site; the ruins of the Abbaye des Salenques; and the Pech de Limouzy, a summit.
Further afield in the region are the Abbaye de Boulbonne, a historic site; the Grotte du Portel, a cave; and the summits of Montcoustan and Roc de Caralp.
