The Le Chateau de Saint Barthélémy hiking trail reaches Montseron via Route No. 08. It passes through the boxwood forest known as the Buxaie de Lescalé and descends to the Arize, which is home to the Pyrenean desman. In the vicinity of Montseron, the trail leads to the ruins of the Château de Saint-Barthélemy. The hiking trail is 14 km long, takes approximately 5 hours and 15 minutes, and has 510 metres of elevation gain.
Nature
The Grotte de Soulabé is one of the two main caves in the Cirque de Malarnaud and is located just a few metres from the Grotte de Malarnaud. Since 3 December 1993, the Grotte de Malarnaud has been protected by a prefectural order for the conservation of the biotope.
A total of 23 bat species have been recorded in the caves of the Ker de Massat, the Grotte d’Aliou in Cazavet, the Grotte de Malarnaud in Montseron, and the Grotte de Tourtouse. The Grotte de Montseron is one of four distinct Natura 2000 sites with bat caves designated as Special Areas of Conservation.
