Culture and history
Further local heritage is connected with water: Mercenac has a covered well with a wheel at a fountain-washhouse-drinking trough. The hamlet of Nerou also preserves a well with a wheel. The washhouse-drinking trough of Mercenac is located at the exit of the main village.
The war memorial in Mercenac was erected in 1921 and redesigned in 1988. Black granite slabs and a protective grille were added at that time. The memorial stands on a reinforced-concrete foundation against the northern exterior wall of the parish church. The chalice has been listed as a protected object since 16 February 1995.
Pointis also has historical heritage. The temple of Pointis was probably largely completed in 1839; work continued until 1846–1847. The Protestant cemetery of Pointis lies about 150 metres south of the temple on the edge of a woodland. The municipality of Mercenac fenced in and cleaned the cemetery. Numerous glassmakers and their families are buried in the Protestant cemetery of Pointis. The former temple of Pointis no longer serves religious purposes but is used as a dwelling.
