Le Carlaret: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Le Carlaret lies in the lower plain of the Hers and also extends across the Ariège plain. To the east, the terraces rise towards the ridges above the alluvial plain of the Hers. The Hers and Estaut rivers cross Le Carlaret, which includes an extensive floodplain.

Culture and history

The Church of Saint Saturninus in Le Carlaret is a Romanesque or pre-Romanesque building, first mentioned in 1215. The surviving elevations suggest that it was built in the 12th century. The oldest parts of the church are preserved at the eastern end of the nave, where the choir is located. The surviving masonry includes pebbles and dressed sandstone blocks.

The church's furnishings include a statue of Saint Saturninus, created by the Toulouse sculptor François-Dominique Monna. In 1204, Le Carla received a charter of customs from Raimond Roger de Foix, which addressed land clearance and classified the settlement as a sauveté.

Paths

The Voie Verte is open in the station district of Le Carlaret; it connects Pamiers with Mirepoix. The Le Carlaret–Ludiès hiking trail begins at the church square in the hamlet of Le Carlaret and follows the former Pamiers–Limoux railway line for approximately one kilometre.
