Gaudiès: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Culture and history
Gaudiès combines distinctive architectural heritage with the riverside landscape of the Hers. Construction of Gaudiès Castle began in 1280 around a church dating from the first half of the 12th century. The castle has moats and a drawbridge.
Another historic building is Malportel Castle. It was built in 1565 by François de Baron, a viguier of Pamiers. On the side facing the Hers, a preserved gun embrasure can be seen.
The present-day parish church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption is documented after 1630. It has a brick bell gable with three sound openings.
Gaudiès is also home to three Romanesque double capitals featuring human and fantastical animal representations, which may date from the 11th or 12th century.
Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Gaudiès plans their stay with Gaudiès as the destination.
Landscape along the Hers
The landscape around Gaudiès includes, at its centre, the alluvial plain of the Hers, which is slightly at risk of flooding. To the west, alluvial terraces lie at an altitude of 250 m. To the east, slopes composed of molasse, puddingstone and limestone rise to 350 m.
Gaudiès beach is located by the village square in a bend of the Hers. The Gaudiès landing stage is located upstream from the beach.
Canoeing on the Hers Vif
The Hers Vif has a 23 km canoeing route from Gaudiès to Calmont. Canoeing on the Hers Vif is suitable for beginners.
