Culture
The Benedictine community of the Notre-Dame du Donezan Abbey has been based in the Ariège department since 2007. The abbey is located on the Route forestière in Mounouscles, 09460 Carcanières. There is neither a shop nor visitor access on site.

The type 2 ZNIEFF area “Massif de Laurenti ou de Quérigut” includes Carcanières. The Massif de Laurenti ou de Quérigut is of botanical interest because of its numerous endemic Pyrenean species and glacial relic species. The massif is also of interest from a fauna perspective: chamois and rock ptarmigans are found on the ridges.
Hiking
The “Tour des villages du Donezan” circular trail connects the seven villages of Donezan on foot. The hike can be started in any of the seven villages along the circuit. At the exit of Carcanières, the route passes the “travail à ferrer” and continues towards Quérigut.
