La Grande-Fosse: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The parish church of Saint-Gondelbert was built from 1830 onwards to replace the chapel of Bonne-Fontaine, which had become too small. Anyone choosing La Grande-Fosse as a place to stay will want to rent a holiday apartment there.

Culture and History

The parish church of Saint-Gondelbert has a rectangular single-nave layout, an integrated bell tower with a neoclassical portal, and a semicircular choir. Two “bouteilles-calvaires” of different sizes are bottle-shaped Stations of the Cross objects with carved elements attached to wood and cardboard.

A grotto-shaped oratory dedicated to Saint Gondelbert was built in the 19th century near the former chapel of Bonne-Fontaine. Château de la Roche, a castle, is located in the vicinity of La Grande-Fosse. The Abbey of Senones, a monastery, the ruins of Château du Bilstein Lorrain, and the ruins of Château de Salm are also located nearby.

Col du Las was the highest point of the historic Voie des Saulniers, the salt road.

Mountains and Landscape

Mount Solamont is located in the immediate vicinity of La Grande-Fosse. Montagne d'Ormont, a mountain, is located in the vicinity of La Grande-Fosse; Mount L'Abbateux and Mount Le Houdimont are also located there.

The “Sentier découverte du paysage” in the Arboretum du Col du Las is open to everyone and features four information panels about the development of the forest and the local wildlife and plant life.

Paths and Activities

The Sentier botanique du Belfays is a botanical forest trail with 15 stations and an elevation difference. The “Circuit VTT - La Grande Fosse” is a mountain-bike trail of moderate difficulty.

The circular route “Sur le chemin de la transition” is an educational trail through La Grande-Fosse that focuses on the measures taken by the municipality and its residents to promote sustainable development and environmental protection. The same circular route is classified as a moderate hike lasting 2 hours and covering 5.5 km.
