Culture

The Croix de Tirpoix bears two scallop shells on either side of a pilgrim’s staff on its shaft. According to local tradition, Jehan Grossir had it erected in 1752 in memory of his brother Jacques, who is said to have died near his home while returning from a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The Croix de Tirpoix can be reached by following the direction to the riding farm near the Granges de Franould: at the turn-off to the farm, continue uphill to the right; a few metres after entering the forest, the crossing is on the left.

The Maison du Patrimoine has a room dedicated to local history, featuring archaeological remains and evidence of the region’s past. Another room focuses on religious art and local spiritual practices; a third room is intended for temporary exhibitions.

The Église Saint-Laurent contains a high altar, a reredos and a tabernacle in the Louis XV style. The high altar, reredos and tabernacle date from the 18th century. The large organ was built in 1874 by the Géhin brothers and is considered the best-preserved instrument from their entire production. Its case is made of Vosges fir and designed in the Neo-Gothic style.

Hiking

The La Vierge du Mai hike is approximately 5.7 km long, has around 223 m of elevation gain, takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes, and starts in the car park in front of the town hall. It leads to a viewpoint overlooking the valley.

The La Brasserie hike is approximately 5.9 km long, has around 220 m of elevation gain, takes about 2 hours, and is marked with red rings. It includes an out-and-back route to a viewpoint at the Roche. As a circular trail, La Brasserie also passes the ruins of the former Villemard farm.

Paths and countryside

At Dommartin-lès-Remiremont, the Voie Verte des Hautes Vosges divides into two asphalt paths for various activities, following the routes of two former railway lines. The Voie Verte provides access to the starting points of the La Brasserie and La Vierge du Mai hikes in Dommartin-lès-Remiremont. A section of the Voie Verte des Hautes-Vosges approximately 3 km long runs between Remiremont and Dommartin-lès-Remiremont as far as a junction of two valleys.

Every August, Dommartin-lès-Remiremont hosts the traditional Foire aux pieds de cochons; it has been held there since 1983.
